Once Ken had retired he took a variety of Open College of the Arts courses. For him, this was a great foundation, studying 4 years painting in oils and acrylics, then 1 year drawing and 1 year of watercolour painting. He continued his studies in oils with John Voss, the surrealist painter and in mixed media with Brian Taylor’s classes. As a result he paints in oils, watercolours and acrylics but is beginning to prefer mixed media. He successfully exhibits locally and further afield. Last August he won the prize for best readers’ letter in the Artist Magazine, which is a humorous account of painting ‘en plein air’. You can see on Ken’s blog some of his sketch book work which is part of a holiday journal.
