Michael has been painting watercolours for over 20 years now. His paintings are predominantly landscapes, townscapes and waterscapes. They vary from the ever popular English countryside to less predictable Mediterranean scenes and everything in between. He is also interested in cartoons, which regularly feature in local publications, and, in recent years, he has developed a series of simple line drawings. These have proved to be very popular and are influenced by the superb work of Benjamin Chee Chee - a Canadian first nation artist.

Michael is a regular exhibitor and his studio is open to anyone who wishes to visit it. His works are included in private collections not only in the UK but also as far afield as Canada, America, Australia, France and Cyprus. As well as teaching the art of watercolour painting he also gives workshops and demonstrations to art groups and talks to various local groups on the life of an artist .
He also regularly undertakes watercolour commissions and has found that paintings of houses and gardens are among the most popular subjects. Commissioned work can also feature memories of a special place, an event, a holiday or even a painting or drawing of a business or a commercial property which can also be used for marketing purposes: letter headings, brochures, menus, etc .
Typically he likes to meet clients at the location of the subject to discuss their expectations, to make sketches, and to take photos. He prefers to see the subject for himself to get a feel for it and also it gives him a chance to advise on the most favourable view point to provide a compositionally balanced picture. However, he recognises that this is not always possible due to circumstances, busy diaries, or distances involved in which case he is happy to work from a favourite photograph of the subject.
In addition Michael is a keen cartoonist and has had his work published in both local and regional publications. Recently he has also become interested in sculptures made from driftwood.  These feature various subjects of a coastal nature including beach huts and fish.
